Luxury hotel choices in Cambodia have expanded rapidly over the past few years - here's our pick of the best from around the country...

 

SONG SAA PRIVATE ISLAND

SIHANOUKVILLE PROVINCE


Spread over 2 remote islands in the Koh Rong Archipelago in the bay of Cambodia, Song Saa Private Island offers 27 luxurious villas, some are built into the jungle and others on stilts over the sea.


Created with sustainability in mind, the resort is surrounded by a 100 hector marine reserve and the island's beaches offer pristine stretches of golden sand.


The food is delicious and seasonal with locally sourced ingredients. Options include Khmer specialities such as fish amok, beef curry and Song Saa fried rice as well as a number of western options.


Song Saa also offers a wide range of activities including snorkeling and Kayaking.

 
 

PHUM BAITANG

SIEM REAP


Opened in September 2015, Phum Baitang was designed by Paris based architects, AW₂, to give the feel of an authentic Khmer village in rural surroundings just a 15-minute drive from Siem Reap’s centre.


The resort was named by Angelina Jolie as her favourite hotel in the world after she booked the entire resort for 3 months to accommodate her party while directing the movie, First they Killed my Father.


Facilities at the resort include two restaurants, two bars, a boutique, a 50-meter infinity pool and a Spa.

 
 

RAFFLES LE ROYAL

PHNOM PENH



Le Royal hotel has played an important part in the history of Phnom Penh since it first opened in 1927 and has hosted famous travellers such as Jackie Kennedy, Charlie Chaplin and André Malraux.


Fully renovated in 1997 the hotel combines colonial, Khmer and Art Deco styles.


The Elephant bar is one of the most sophisticated places to have a drink in the city. You can try the signature cocktail that was originally invented for Jackie O before she stayed at the hotel.

 
 

FOUR RIVERS FLOATING LODGE

KOH KONG PROVINCE



Set on the Tatai River in the lesser visited south-west corner of Cambodia, the 4 rivers floating lodge comprises of 10 luxury floating tents surrounded by the jungle of the Cardamom Mountains. This is a truly unique property in this part of the world.


The rooms have many of the luxuries you would find in a hotel including comfortable king-sized beds, desk, wardrobe, minibar, television and 24/7 electricity.


There are a number of activities on offer including boat trips to waterfalls and kayaking.

 
 

RAFFLES HOTEL D'ANGKOR

Opened in 1932, the Hotel d'Angkor is one of Cambodia’s grandest hotels and has hosted guests such as Charlie Chaplin, Somerset Maugham and the Clintons.


The location is one of the best in Siem Reap, overlooking the Royal Gardens in the leafy French Quarter a stone’s throw from the Siem Reap River.


The classical Cambodian dance performances (Apsara), watched while enjoying a sumptuous Cambodian dinner, are perhaps the best in town.
